The SIFE New Zealand National Championship was held at the KPMG offices by the Viaduct on the 19th of July 2008, with an unprecedented single round competition between 3 SIFE teams. The Presenting Team from SIFE AUT was confident and excited for the competition, which showcased brilliant community and business projects presented by top university business students in the competition. The other two participating tertiary institutions were: Victoria University of Wellington and University of Waikato.

All three teams presented their SIFE projects to a judging panel which consisted of New Zealand’s leading senior business executives from different companies. Each team was allowed 24 minutes to present how their projects have best met the SIFE Judging Criteria, and more importantly, created notable impacts in their communities.

After the presentations, the judges were grouped in a separate room to deliberate on selecting the best SIFE team to represent the country. Meanwhile, both the participants and the audience were treated to a video package highlighting the country that would host the 2008 SIFE World Cup – Singapore. The winning SIFE team would represent SIFE New Zealand to compete for the richest prize of all – the SIFE World Cup trophy at the Lion City in October.

John Cunningham, the country coordinator for SIFE New Zealand congratulated all the teams for making a positive difference to the community through their respective SIFE projects. He noted that all the judges were impressed with the development of SIFE students, in being leaders and drivers for change in the community.

The results were announced: The first team in the second-equal position was SIFE Waikato, followed by SIFE Victoria.

SIFE AUT was awarded the title as SIFE New Zealand Champion for the third time, and the team has earned the right to represent the country as Team New Zealand into the SIFE World Cup at Singapore, this October!
