“To provide our community an opportunity to up-skill and improve lives”

Project-K Waitakere Graduation - June, 2007Our foundation project set the platform for SIFE AUT today. In partnership with Project-K, we help change the lives of high school students aged 13-15 years from all over Auckland.

Project-K were able to connect us with young people who were not only in need of more confidence, but lacking life direction and the vital skills needed to cope in the world today. We developed a basic business and computing programme centred on the principles of SIFE.

We regularly source used computers from businesses and the community and by linking with AUT University's School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences we're able to rebuild them to workable specifications. On completion of their Networx and Project-K courses, students are gifted a computer along with 12 months free Internet access (sponsored by ICONZ) and Help Desk support (provided by lecturers and students from the Diploma in IT). This aids in their ongoing learning and enables continued growth for these young people.

Our aim was to give these students better lifestyle options, inspiring them to achieve their goals and give them resources to aid growth and development. The opportunity was one that was not only valuable for the students but had further benefits for their families’ through the gift of a home computer.
